Record 2,249 Dengue Patients Hospitalised in a Single Day, 7 Dead

Staff Reporter

The dengue situation in the country has taken a more alarming turn. A record 2,249 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country in a single day. Seven people died of the disease during the same period. The single-day admission figure is reported to be the highest so far.

The admission of more than two thousand patients in one day underlines the severity of this year's dengue situation. With admissions climbing beyond any previous level to a record high, fresh concern has been created.

Alongside the admissions, deaths are also continuing. Seven deaths in a single day have been reported. As the number of infections rises in this manner, fears over fatalities are growing too.

The Aedes mosquito-borne disease is no longer merely a seasonal illness; its scale has been growing year after year. A record set in a single day's admissions has now made the gravity of the situation even clearer.

When a record number of patients crowd into hospitals at once, pressure on the treatment system naturally builds. Attention will be on whether hospitals struggle to serve such a huge number of patients.

Meanwhile, there are reports of awareness initiatives at the field level to prevent dengue. In Galachipa, a discussion meeting on dengue prevention was held under the initiative of 'Shubhosangho'. Efforts are under way to raise awareness among people through such meetings at the local level.

It has been said repeatedly that the main battle against dengue lies in awareness. Destroying mosquito breeding sites, clearing standing water, and seeking a doctor's advice promptly when fever strikes are the issues emphasised in such awareness programmes.

On this day of record admissions, the picture suggests dengue patient pressure has increased at hospitals in the capital and across the country. If daily admissions keep rising at this rate, managing the situation could become even harder.

In such a situation, those concerned stress not neglecting a fever and getting tested and treated quickly. In particular, if symptoms turn worse, the advice to go to hospital without delay has become all the more relevant.

A record 2,249 admissions and 7 deaths in a single day — these figures alone show how widely dengue has spread this time. All eyes will now be on which direction the infection graph moves in the coming days.

If the situation is not brought under control, it is feared this pressure of hospital admissions may rise further. Preventive initiatives are therefore as urgent as seeking timely treatment when ill.
