Six More Die of Dengue as Concern Grows Over Mosquito-Borne Disease Risk

Staff Reporter

Six more people have died after contracting dengue in the country. The news of fresh deaths from this mosquito-borne disease has again raised public-health concern.

News of dengue deaths is coming every day, and these latest six deaths have lengthened that sequence. The pressure of patients admitted to hospitals with the infection also continues in various places.

Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral disease. It spreads through the bite of Aedes mosquitoes, and its prevalence is usually highest during and after the monsoon.

Fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, body aches and rash are the familiar symptoms of dengue. In many cases a patient's condition can deteriorate quickly, so it is important to seek medical help without delay when symptoms appear.

Doctors have repeatedly said that if fever develops, the safest path is to get tested and take a doctor's advice rather than self-medicating. Especially if platelets fall or signs of bleeding appear, quick hospital admission is necessary.

The main way to prevent dengue is to stop mosquito breeding. Standing water around homes — in flower tubs, old tyres, open containers or construction sites — becomes a breeding ground for Aedes mosquitoes.

Alongside mosquito-control activities by local administration and city corporations, citizens keeping their own homes and workplaces clean is equally important, public-health specialists believe.

Separate arrangements for dengue patients in hospitals and adequate testing facilities have long been discussed. When patient pressure rises in season, that management faces its biggest test.

The news of six more deaths is a warning for every family — fever cannot be taken lightly, and protection from mosquitoes now needs to become a daily habit.

Dengue can be riskier for children, the elderly and people suffering from chronic diseases. Doctors advise special caution and quick treatment if they develop fever.

The next update on the dengue situation will be reported when available. For now, awareness, mosquito control and timely treatment are considered the most effective ways to reduce deaths from this disease.
