Rotary International Holds Awareness Rally in Dhaka on World Polio Day

Staff Reporter

Rotary International held a rally in the capital Dhaka on the occasion of World Polio Day. The rally was organised to raise awareness about eradicating polio.

World Polio Day is observed across the globe every year. The main purpose of the day is to renew the pledge to build a polio-free world and to convey the importance of vaccinating children to everyone.

Polio is a preventable disease, and the most effective weapon against it is the vaccine. It is through regular immunisation programmes that most countries of the world have been able to bring this disease under control.

Rotary International has long been involved in the global movement to eradicate polio. The organisation works in different countries supporting vaccination programmes and creating public awareness.

Participants in the Dhaka rally spread the message of awareness for polio prevention. Making parents conscious about vaccinating their children on time was one of the main aims of the event.

According to public health experts, there can be no relaxation in vaccination if the success against polio is to be sustained. If even one child remains outside vaccination, the risk remains.

In Bangladesh, children are given the polio vaccine through the national immunisation programme and special campaigns. The continued success of these programmes has kept the country away from the risk of polio.

World Polio Day events serve as a reminder to hold on to that success. As long as the disease exists anywhere in the world, other countries must also stay alert, because a virus does not respect borders.

Through the rally, members of Rotary International expressed their determination to keep working towards the goal of a polio-free world.

Those involved believe awareness programmes like this help build a positive attitude towards vaccines among parents. Ensuring every dose of vaccine for a child's healthy future is the core message of this day.
