Special Raid in Gendaria's Ghuntighar Railgate Area: 28 Arrested Including a Child

Staff Reporter

Police have arrested 28 people on allegations of involvement in various crimes during a special raid in the Dayaganj Ghuntighar Railgate area adjacent to the railway station under Gendaria police station in the capital. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) media wing disclosed the information late on Friday night (Oct. 23).

The area had recently come into discussion after a raid by State Minister Ishraque Hossain. It is in that same much-discussed area that police have now arrested so many people at once in a special operation.

According to Gendaria police station sources, the arrests were made on Friday (Oct. 23) during the operation in the Dayaganj Ghuntighar Railgate area adjacent to the railway station under Gendaria police station. It was an area-based special raid targeting people accused of involvement in various crimes.

Those arrested include Shamsul Haque (26), Md. Iqbal Hossain Jihad (23), Arafat Hossain Shamim (20), Md. Abdullah Rahul (18), Mohammad Hossain (26), Saimur (22), Emon (21), Avi (21), Md. Rafin (20) and Junaid Hossain (20).

The list also includes Md. Said Hossain (19), Anwar Hossain (29), Md. Imran Arafat (19), Md. Maruf Hossain (19), Sahidur (30), Md. Ujjal (36), Md. Robin (35), Md. Masud (35), Md. Dulu (35) and Farid Bepari (45).

Also arrested were Md. Jony (26), Kabir (30), Yusuf (23), Md. Al Rabbi (23), Md. Shuvo (22), Md. Shaon (35) and Md. Sentu Mia (50). Among the 28 arrested is also a child in conflict with the law, the DMP said.

The ages on the arrest list show that a large share of them are young — those aged between 18 and 30 form the majority. The oldest person on the list is Md. Sentu Mia, aged 50.

The DMP said legal action against the arrested persons is under process. In other words, after the raid, specific legal procedures are now being followed against each of them.

A special police raid of this scale in an area that came into the spotlight after a state minister's operation has renewed local attention on the law-and-order situation there. Repeated operations in the same area indicate it remains under watch.

However, the DMP's initial information does not detail the specific offences alleged against each arrested person; it says only that they were arrested on allegations of involvement in various crimes.

Completing the legal action against the 28 arrested people is now the next step. The DMP said that process is already under way.
