ACL Tear Ends PSG Star Kvaratskhelia's Season, Knee Surgery Ahead
Paris Saint-Germain's Georgian forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has been ruled out for a long period after suffering a serious knee injury. He tore the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during his team's third match of the current UEFA Champions League campaign.
He is now considered unlikely to play again in the remainder of the 2026-27 season. PSG authorities have confirmed the blow for the star who was named the Champions League's player of the tournament last season.
Kvaratskhelia was injured during the 4-2 win over Barcelona. In the 59th minute, he suffered a major blow to his right knee while challenging for the ball with opponent Javi Espart.
Seeing the situation was serious, PSG's medical staff carried him off the field. Concern spread through the stadium at that moment, as a knee injury is one of the most feared setbacks in football.
The club said surgery will soon be performed on his right knee so that he can recover fully. After the operation, a long rehabilitation process will begin, with every stage requiring patience.
The club has not announced a specific timetable for his return. However, doctors say it usually takes at least nine months to return to the field after recovering from this kind of injury.
The Georgian star has been left mentally shattered by such a major setback at the peak of his career. Expressing frustration and emotion on his Instagram account, he wrote, 'Why did this have to happen to me in particular? I was not ready for this.'
His post drew deep sympathy from fans and the football community. Supporters have been posting messages on social media wishing him a speedy recovery.
Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has stepped forward to give Kvaratskhelia mental strength in this difficult time. The Al Nassr forward posted an inspirational message on social media.
Ronaldo wrote that football's hardest battles often take place behind the scenes, where many people cannot see them. He reminded Kvaratskhelia that the ability that brought him to this position should not be allowed to lose its belief because of this difficult moment.
Urging him to hold on to his inner self-belief, Ronaldo wrote that his best days and biggest achievements still lie ahead of him.
Kvaratskhelia was one of the main hopes of PSG's attack. The French club will now have to plan the rest of the season without him, while the Georgian star faces the hard road of surgery and long rehabilitation.
