Rice's Late Equaliser Shares the Points on Kane's Tenth Straight Scoring Night as Bayern Draw With Arsenal

Staff Reporter • Reading time: 2 min

The high-voltage UEFA Champions League match between European giants Bayern Munich and Arsenal has ended in a 2-2 draw. At home at the Allianz Arena, Bayern led 2-1 until the 81st minute but were forced to share the points by a late goal.

With this draw, last season's runners-up Arsenal are seventh in the standings with seven points from three matches. Six-time champions Bayern, with five points from the same number of matches, have dropped to 14th.

Visitors Arsenal suffered a big early blow. In the tenth minute, forward Bukayo Saka lost his balance while trying to pass, fell, injured his knee and was forced to leave the field.

Arsenal recovered from that setback to take the lead in the 25th minute. Eberechi Eze latched onto captain Martin Odegaard's long pass, burst into the box at pace and beat Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer with an angled shot.

The goal was initially ruled out for offside, but after a Video Assistant Referee review the decision was overturned. Eze's goal stood and Arsenal went ahead.

Bayern took only ten minutes to equalise after falling behind. In the 35th minute, Canadian defender Alphonso Davies took Harry Kane's long through pass from midfield, advanced down the left and beat Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya with a controlled right-foot shot.

The hosts went ahead again in the 61st minute of the second half. Kane's shot struck Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber's raised hand in the box and the referee pointed to the penalty spot.

England captain Kane scored from the spot with a powerful shot for the 58th goal of his Champions League career. It was his 16th goal against Arsenal in the 23rd match of his career against them.

Kane scored against Arsenal in every season from 2014-15 to 2023-24, most of them while playing for Tottenham Hotspur. He also set the unique feat of scoring in ten consecutive Champions League matches.

Cristiano Ronaldo alone holds the competition record of scoring in 11 straight matches, in 2017 and 2018. Kane now needs a goal in just one more match to touch that record.

On the day of Kane's personal achievement, just as Bayern were preparing to leave the field with all three points, his England teammate Declan Rice entered the scene.

In the 82nd minute, Rice played a one-two with Viktor Gyokeres in a fine understanding and silenced the home crowd by putting the ball in Bayern's net. His equaliser finally left the exciting contest between the two giants unresolved.
