Cocktail Blast Outside Shilpakala Academy: Prime Accused Abul Hayad Arrested in Rupganj
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested the prime accused in the case filed over a cocktail explosion in front of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the capital's Segunbagicha.
The arrested man is Abul Hayad, also known as Dipu, aged 32. He was arrested in a raid in Rupganj, Narayanganj, at around 3pm on Monday. Police said he is a member of the banned organisation Chhatra League.
DMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (media and public relations) Niaz Mehdi said the investigating officer of the cocktail explosion case filed with Ramna police station traced the accused's location with the help of technology.
Abul Hayad was then arrested in a joint raid in Rupganj with the help of the DMP's Detective Branch (DB), Niaz Mehdi said.
According to police sources, at around 1:45pm last Tuesday, miscreants exploded a cocktail and fled on the road on the east side of Gate No. 2 of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Segunbagicha in the capital.
The sudden explosion spread panic among ordinary people in the area, police sources said.
A case was later filed under the explosives law with Ramna Model police station over the incident. The DMP said Abul Hayad was arrested as the prime accused in that case.
