Dr Shahadat Hossain appointed full-time administrator of Chattogram City Corporation, to exercise mayor's powers

Dr Shahadat Hossain has been appointed full-time administrator of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC). He has been given the responsibility under the provisions of the Local Government (City Corporation) Amendment Act, 2026.
The notification was issued on Sunday (October 25) by the City Corporation-1 branch of the Local Government Division under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives. Deputy Secretary Jewel Rana signed the notification, issued by order of the President.
The notification says Dr Shahadat Hossain will serve as administrator until the city corporation is formed or until further orders.
Under sub-section 3 of section 4 of the Local Government (City Corporation) Amendment Act, 2026, he will exercise the powers and perform the duties of the mayor. He will also receive a monthly honorarium and other allowances under the rules.
Behind Dr Shahadat Hossain's appointment lies a long legal battle. He had filed a case seeking cancellation of the results of the Chattogram City Corporation election held on January 27, 2021.
After the July mass uprising, on October 1, 2024, the court delivered a verdict declaring him the winning mayoral candidate. Now, through this notification, he has received charge of the corporation as its full-time administrator.
