Expired government medicines have been found lying beside the Dhaka-Tangail highway in the Mansur Dhulya area of Mirzapur upazila in Tangail. On Sunday morning (October 25), local residents saw the medicine packets beside the highway.

Local residents said that in the morning several medicine packets scattered beside the highway caught their attention. On going closer, they saw that some of them were expired. However, where the medicines came from or who left them there was not immediately known.

Local residents complained that patients often say they do not get necessary medicines at government hospitals. In such a situation, the incident of expired medicines lying beside the highway has raised questions about medicine storage and management. They demanded that the source of the medicines be identified and the incident be properly investigated.

On this matter, Mirzapur Upazila Health Complex official Md Faridul Islam said, 'There is no expired medicine in our hospital. I am not aware of who left these medicines beside the highway either. However, after learning of the matter, I am talking to the hospital's concerned staff and inquiries are being made.'

Earlier, an allegation had surfaced that expired medicines from Ghatail Upazila Health Complex in Tangail were dumped in the Jamuna River. Before the repercussions of that incident had subsided, the discovery of expired medicines beside the highway in Mirzapur has created fresh concern among local residents.
