Mother hacked to death by daughter in Feni's Daganbhuiyan; daughter detained
A woman has hacked her own mother to death with a boti, a curved blade, in Daganbhuiyan upazila of Feni. The incident took place on Sunday night (October 25) at the house of Badsha Mia in Purba Chandrapur village, under Purba Chandrapur Model Union of the upazila.
The victim was named as Setara Begum, aged 75, the wife of the late Hossain Ahmed of the village. The accused daughter is Rina Akter Ranu, 37.
Local and police sources said Ranu had been behaving abnormally for the past few days and had recently beaten her husband as well. Her family then brought her to her father's house for treatment, where her mental and other treatment was under way.
On Sunday night, Ranu suddenly confined the other members of the household to a room and began hacking her mother repeatedly with the sharp boti. Setara Begum died on the spot.
Ranu then ran from room to room of the house carrying the boti and kept the door locked from inside. On receiving the news, a team from Daganbhuiyan police station reached the spot.
After a long effort, police broke the iron door of the house, entered and recovered Setara Begum's body. Ranu was detained over the incident.
Daganbhuiyan police station's officer-in-charge Muhammad Faizul Azim Noman said the body had been recovered and sent to the morgue of Feni General Hospital for an autopsy. The girl appeared to have mental problems; she has been detained, he said.
Earlier, on May 10 this year, a woman named Laki Begum, 40, was killed by her drug-addicted son's sharp weapon at the Makbul Ahmad Superintendent house in Dilpur village of Sindurpur Union in the same upazila. Her husband and daughter were seriously injured in that incident, and local people detained the accused son, Rafi, 21, and handed him over to police.
