Two Arrested Within 48 Hours in Mohammadpur Terror Case as Raids Continue

Staff Reporter

SRB-2 has arrested two accused within 48 hours in a case over law-and-order-disrupting crimes in the capital's Mohammadpur. The arrested men are Md Palash (28) and Tota Mia alias Rabbi (22).

They were arrested on Friday (October 24) in raids in the Rayerbazar and Botghat areas under Mohammadpur police station. Both are named accused in a case filed with Mohammadpur police station.

SRB-2 Deputy Director (Media) Major M Mubin Rahman Tapas confirmed the information. He said an operation is under way against a group accused of creating terror in the Mohammadpur area through turf dominance, mugging and terrorist activities.

The group members allegedly paraded in gangs with locally made weapons, displayed force, spread fear and created disorder that disrupted public life. Holding dominance over the area was the purpose of the activity, it was stated.

Major Tapas said Mohammadpur police had arrested a member of the group, Mithu Mia (20), on October 23. Based on information from his interrogation, police filed a case as complainant against Mithu Mia and the absconding accused. Following that case, two more were arrested within the next 48 hours.

SRB-2 said the arrested Tota Mia alias Rabbi faces a case at Hazaribagh police station over unlawful obstruction, rioting, grievous hurt, intimidation and attempted murder.

Palash, meanwhile, faces two cases at Dhanmondi police station over robbery, grievous hurt and murder, and a non-FIR general diary at Hazaribagh police station — meaning both arrested men already had multiple prior allegations against them.

Further legal proceedings against the arrested men are under way, and the next steps will be decided through the court, concerned sources said.

The statement said raids are continuing to arrest the other absconding accused in the case, with operations being conducted based on intelligence about the group's remaining members.

Group activity and muggings linked to turf dominance in Mohammadpur have long caused concern among local residents. Residents hope the successive arrests in the continuing drive will bring relief to the area.

How long the drive will continue, and when the absconding accused can be caught, is not yet certain. Law enforcers say the operation will not stop until every member of the group is brought under the law.
