Shots Fired at Singer Asif Akbar's Car: Police Analysing CCTV Footage to Identify Attackers
Police have begun work to identify and arrest those involved in the shooting targeting popular singer Asif Akbar's personal car. Additional Police Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Abul Bashar Talukdar said those responsible would be brought under the law as quickly as possible. He spoke on Saturday (24 October) at noon.
The shooting took place around 5am on Saturday in front of Bishal Center in the capital's Mogbazar area. Asif Akbar's personal private car was parked on the ground floor of the Bishal Center market in Mogbazar.
According to internal police reports and CCTV review, a man arrived in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in the early morning and opened fire at the car. The rear right-side glass of the vehicle was damaged. A bullet cartridge was recovered from the scene.
Asif Akbar himself was not in the car at the time of the attack. He was at his studio or office on the third floor of Bishal Center. As a result, there were no casualties. Police and detectives later visited the scene.
Additional Commissioner Abul Bashar Talukdar said footage from nearby CCTV cameras is being collected and analysed to identify the miscreants who fired at the car and fled. Detectives are working alongside the police.
Because the incident happened in the quiet early-morning hours, there were few eyewitnesses. Investigators are therefore relying mainly on CCTV footage and the recovered cartridge. Tracing the auto-rickshaw's movements and the attacker's escape route should make identification easier, officials believe.
Why the attack was carried out is still unclear. Police are examining every angle — personal dispute, threat, or another motive. No arrest had been reported yet.
Asif Akbar is one of the country's popular singers. He is also a former director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The shooting at his car has caused concern in the music community and among his fans.
Police say the investigation is ongoing and all technical support is being used to identify those involved. Any new progress will be shared with the media.
