Jubo Dal Activist Hacked to Death in Barisal's Uzirpur, Another Injured
Attackers have hacked to death a Jubo Dal activist named Kawsar Hawlader (37) in Satla of Uzirpur upazila in Barisal. Another Jubo Dal activist was injured in the incident.
Police said the attack on him took place at around 9:30 pm on Friday (23 October).
Police said Kawsar Hawlader, Rashed Amin, and several other Jubo Dal activists were standing and talking on a bridge in the West Satla area near the Uzirpur-Kotalipara border. At that time, a group of attackers arriving in a microbus launched an assault on them.
To save their lives, Kawsar and Rashed jumped into the water below the bridge and took shelter in the nearby house of Habib Hawlader.
But there was no escape there either. The attackers broke down the door of the house, entered, hacked Kawsar, and fled.
He was later rescued and taken to the Kotalipara Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared Kawsar dead. Jubo Dal activist Rashed Amin was seriously injured in the same incident.
Police and local people said Kawsar was killed in a planned manner over previous enmity.
The deceased Kawsar Hawlader was the son of Monasef Hawlader of Alamdi village in Satla. By profession, he rode a motorcycle for hire.
Rakibul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Uzirpur Model Police Station, said the body of the deceased has been sent to the morgue for autopsy.
Preparations are under way to file a murder case over the incident. Several police teams have started working to identify and arrest those involved in the killing, the OC said.
Local people will now be watching the police investigation — only if the attackers who came in the microbus can be identified and arrested will the picture behind this planned killing become clearer.
