Security Guard Alamgir Found Dead at Bashundhara Construction Site, Police Suspect Strangulation Murder

Staff Reporter

Police have recovered the body of a security guard from inside a tin room at an under-construction building in the Bashundhara Residential Area under Bhatara Police Station in the capital. Police suspect he was strangled to death.

The dead man was identified as Alamgir Hossain, 52. His village home is in Shalkona village under Bagatipara Police Station in Natore district, and his father's name is the late Kalim Uddin Pramanik. Alamgir, who worked as a security guard, lived at the under-construction building itself.

Bhatara Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Abdul Wadud said the body was recovered around 8pm on Thursday from a tin room below an under-construction building in Block-M on Road 8/A of Bashundhara Residential Area.

After the recovery, the body was sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue on Friday morning for an autopsy. Police said the exact cause of death will be confirmed once the autopsy report is available.

SI Abdul Wadud said: 'The deceased was the security guard of that under-construction building. We suspect unknown assailants beat him and strangled him to death last night before fleeing.'

According to police, finger marks were visible on the victim's neck, along with a wound below the knee of his right leg and an injury on the left side of his head. These signs strengthened the initial suspicion of murder.

As a security guard, Alamgir was responsible for guarding the building and lived there. It is therefore believed the incident may have taken place at some point during the night, although who was involved in the killing is not yet known.

Bashundhara Residential Area is a planned and busy residential zone of the capital. The killing of a security guard at an under-construction building in such an area has caused concern among local residents.

Under-construction buildings usually see few people at night, and the security guards on duty there often remain alone. This incident has raised fresh questions about security arrangements at construction sites.

Police say the autopsy report will establish the cause of death conclusively. Alongside that, efforts to identify those involved in the killing are expected to move forward.

For now, grief and questions remain over Alamgir Hossain's death. Only when the investigation answers who carried out the killing and why will the full picture of the incident emerge.
