'I Am Deeply Hurt,' Says Shamoli Sutradhar after Being Relieved of Her Moulvibazar BNP Post
Relieved of her party post, Shamoli Sutradhar, a member of the convening committee of Moulvibazar district BNP, has said she is deeply hurt by the party's sudden decision. She was relieved of her party post on allegations of involvement in activities contrary to party policy, ideals and discipline.
The decision was announced in a letter signed on Wednesday (21 October) by Moulvibazar district BNP convener Fayzul Karim Moyun and member-secretary Abdur Rahim Ripon. Through the letter, this organisational decision at the district level was formally communicated.
The letter mentioned that specific allegations of involvement in activities against the BNP's constitution, policy and ideals had come to the attention of the party high command. The allegations had also created an adverse reaction among the general public, the letter said.
In this context, in the interest of maintaining party discipline, Shamoli Sutradhar was relieved of her post as a member of the district BNP convening committee, the letter said. The district leadership put discipline at the forefront as the reason for the decision.
The letter also said the order would take effect immediately. In other words, she no longer holds that member post from the time the letter was issued.
Copies of the decision were also sent to the BNP central committee and to the leaders in charge at the Sylhet divisional level. The matter is therefore not limited to the district level; it is also before the central and divisional leadership.
On the matter, Shamoli Sutradhar said: 'I am deeply hurt by this sudden decision of the party. Because of my mental state at this moment, it is difficult for me to make a detailed formal comment.' Her statement makes clear that the decision was unexpected for her.
She also said: 'My love and respect for the party and my colleagues remain as always.' Even after being relieved, she separately mentioned her respect for the party and her colleagues.
Shamoli Sutradhar said that, when the time comes and after considering the situation, she will present her position before the media very soon. Her full statement on the matter has therefore not yet come; it remains awaited.
Moulvibazar is an important district of Sylhet Division. Such a change in the district BNP convening committee has sparked discussion in local politics, because area-based organisational responsibilities are shared among the convening committee's members.
The letter of removal did not give a detailed description of the specific allegations; they were mentioned as activities against the constitution, policy and ideals. It is expected that when her full reaction comes, her statement on the allegations will also be known.
Attention will now be on two things—when Shamoli Sutradhar presents her position before the media, and what decision the district BNP takes on the vacant post and the next organisational steps.
