Magistrate Conducts Drive to Catch Touts at Sylhet Railway Station

A magistrate has conducted a drive to catch touts at Sylhet Railway Station. The operation was carried out to apprehend brokers active in the station area.

The menace of touts at railway stations is a long-familiar problem for passengers. From collecting tickets to various other services, passengers are forced to deal with brokers, and complaints of extra money being extracted in the process are nothing new.

It was against that backdrop that the drive was conducted at Sylhet Railway Station. In the operation led by the magistrate, efforts were made to catch touts staying in the station area.

However, detailed information about how many people were detained in the drive is not yet available. The full outcome of the operation will have to await an official statement from those concerned.

Those involved believe a tout-free environment is essential to ensure passenger services at railway stations. Touts not only harass ordinary passengers, they also create opportunities for irregularities such as ticket black-marketing.

Sylhet Railway Station is an important transport hub for passengers in this region. Every day, many passengers travel through this station to Dhaka and various other destinations across the country.

It is hoped that if such drives are conducted regularly, tout activity in the station area may decline. Passengers, too, are urged to take services directly from designated counters rather than turning to touts.

It now remains to be seen how much the situation in the station area changes after this drive, and what steps the authorities take next to maintain a tout-free environment.
