Two Young Siblings Killed in Auto-Van and Nosimon Collision in Jashore While Heading Out to See Puja

Staff Reporter • Reading time: 3 min

On a festive Durga Puja evening, two young siblings lost their lives in a tragic road accident in Jhikargachha, Jashore. Shobhon and Disha, who had gone out with their parents to see the Puja, never returned home. The accident, which happened around six in the evening on Monday, turned a family's festival joy into grief in a moment.

The accident took place on Council Road in the Phultala area of Magura Union in Jhikargachha upazila. When a passenger auto-van collided with a nosimon, the two children died on the spot. Police said the nosimon was carrying cattle.

The two children who died were the children of Sadhan Kumar of Mishrideyara village in the upazila. His son Shobhon was 10 years old, and his daughter Disha was just three. Their father, Sadhan Kumar, is a teacher at Jashore Cantonment College.

Police said that on Monday evening, Sadhan Kumar had set out for a Durga Puja pandal with his wife and two children. That journey to visit pandals with his children on a festival day became the family's final journey together.

On the way, the passenger van collided with the cattle-carrying nosimon. Shobhon and Disha died on the spot from the impact of the collision. As news of the accident spread, a shadow of grief descended on the area.

The nosimon driver and a passenger were also reported seriously injured in the incident. However, according to police, the children's parents and the van driver were injured but are well. The nosimon driver, Abdul Majid, 45, survived by good fortune.

After the accident, local people rescued the injured and admitted them to the upazila health complex. On that festival evening, the hospital and the accident site were filled with the wailing of relatives and crowds of local people.

Having lost two children at once, a deep shadow of grief has fallen on the family. Alongside the grieving relatives, an atmosphere of mourning prevails among local residents as well. In the home that should have been alive with Puja festivities, there is now only crying.

Golam Kibria Hasan, officer-in-charge of Jhikargachha Police Station, confirmed the accident. He said the two children's parents and the van driver were injured but are well.

The OC also said the process of handing over the bodies of the two children to their relatives is under way. Once administrative procedures are complete, the bodies will be delivered to the family, after which their last rites can be arranged.

During the festival season, pressure of vehicles and movement on the roads increases, and accidents at such times bring irreparable loss to families. This accident has again raised questions about the risks of carrying passengers in small vehicles such as auto-vans and nosimons.

For now, the whole area's attention is on the family of the two children who died. Treatment of the injured is continuing, and relatives are waiting for the bodies to be handed over. The deaths of Shobhon and Disha, who lost their lives while going out to see the Puja, will leave a mark on the memory of the people of Jhikargachha for a long time.
