The Prime Minister of Bangladesh will take part in the 'World Leaders Summit' of the COP31 climate conference to be held in Antalya, Turkey. The decision has been learned from sources at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ramiz Sen, Turkey's ambassador to Bangladesh, paid a courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam at the foreign ministry on Sunday (18 October). The decision was finalised during that meeting.

According to the foreign ministry, Ambassador Ramiz Sen briefed the state minister on the preparations for the 31st Conference of the Parties (COP31) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, to be held in Antalya, Turkey, from 9 to 20 November 2026.

The ambassador referred to the 'World Leaders Summit', scheduled for 11-12 November 2026, and inquired about the participation of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. The summit of world leaders is one of the most important parts of COP31.

In response, the state minister congratulated Turkey on hosting COP31. She assured the ambassador that the Prime Minister of Bangladesh will participate in the 'World Leaders Summit'.

The state minister expressed hope that the conference would also create an opportunity for bilateral meetings between the leaders of the two countries, which she believes would help take bilateral relations further.

During the meeting, she also emphasised deepening cooperation between Bangladesh and Turkey in tackling the challenges of climate change and sustainable development.

Bangladesh is among the countries most at risk from climate change. Its participation in COP conferences has therefore always carried importance, and the Prime Minister's personal presence this time will add further weight to it.

Heads of state and government from various countries around the world are expected to attend the November conference. Issues such as climate finance, adaptation and addressing loss and damage are expected to be the main topics of discussion.

The detailed programme of the Prime Minister's visit and participation in the summit will be announced officially in due course, according to the sources concerned.
