Police at Every Pavilion for Durga Puja Security: 748 Officers on Duty at 562 Pavilions in Sirajganj
On the occasion of Sharadiya Durga Puja, 748 police personnel are on duty for the security of 562 puja pavilions across nine upazilas of Sirajganj. They are working to ensure the security of the pavilions, keep the law-and-order situation normal and ensure visitors can travel without hindrance.
In addition, police patrol teams are on duty on the highways as needed. With vehicle and pedestrian movement increasing during the festival days, special importance is being given to these patrols.
District police sources said on Sunday that police have been deployed at various important places in the district for Durga Puja. The security arrangements at the pavilions are also being monitored.
District Police Superintendent Saiful Islam Santu is visiting various puja pavilions to check on overall security. During the visits he is giving necessary directions to the police personnel on duty.
Meanwhile, many members of the Hindu community have expressed satisfaction with the district's law-and-order situation and security arrangements. They say police are deployed at important places in the district for the puja.
The police superintendent is also visiting pavilions to check on security — which has created optimism among them about celebrating the puja without hindrance.
VP Amar Krishna Das, joint convener of the central committee of the Puja Celebration Forum and president of the Sirajganj District Puja Management Committee, said, 'So that our puja ends beautifully, the police superintendent and the deputy commissioner (DC) have met with us. The minister has also inquired about the overall puja situation. I hope our puja will end well.'
District Police Superintendent Saiful Islam Santu said, '748 police personnel are on duty at 562 puja pavilions in the district's nine upazilas. Beyond this, police personnel are also on duty in plainclothes. Alongside, police teams are working as needed so that there is no problem on the highways. Police personnel are on duty to ensure overall security around the puja.'
In other words, the district's puja security plan has been arranged in three layers — pavilion-centred security, plainclothes surveillance, and highway patrols.
Meanwhile, Tk 10 lakh and 300 saris have been distributed among Hindu devotees in Belkuchi and Enayetpur of Sirajganj. The gifts were given by the Amirul Islam Khan Alim Foundation of the local member of parliament on the occasion of the Sharadiya Durga festival.
Like the rest of the country, Durga Puja is the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community in Sirajganj too. Ensuring security around the festival is therefore now the main priority of the district administration and police.
The security arrangements will remain in place for the remaining days of the puja. Organisers and visitors expect the festival to end peacefully amid the police presence at every pavilion and inspections by senior officials.
