'Jailer 2' Earns Rs 321 Crore in Three Days as Rajinikanth Takes Rs 110 Crore Fee

Staff Reporter • Reading time: 3 min

Tamil superstar Rajinikanth's much-discussed film 'Jailer 2' has returned to screens after a three-year wait, and within just three days of release its worldwide box office collection has reached Rs 321 crore. In Bangladeshi currency that figure is more than Tk 415.8 crore. Since its theatrical release on October 15, audience enthusiasm for the film has been striking.

Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the film stars the 75-year-old Rajinikanth in the central role of 'Muthuvel Pandian'. A Rajinikanth film always means a different kind of excitement among fans, and those involved believe the sequel has lived up to that expectation.

The most talked-about aspect of the film now is the fees of its stars and makers. According to reports, Rajinikanth has taken Rs 110 crore for the central role, which is more than Tk 142 crore in Bangladeshi currency.

That is not all: the star may also have a profit-sharing agreement on the film. If the film achieves extraordinary box office success, his total earnings could reach up to Rs 180 crore, more than Tk 233 crore in Bangladeshi currency. The huge fee reflects his role as the franchise's leading face and the expectations surrounding the sequel.

Director Nelson Dilipkumar has taken a fee of Rs 35 crore, more than Tk 45 crore in Bangladeshi currency. Music director Anirudh Ravichander has taken Rs 20 crore, more than Tk 25 crore.

Veteran actor Mohanlal returns in this film as 'Mathew'. For the role he has taken Rs 30 crore, more than Tk 38 crore in Bangladeshi currency.

Bollywood actress Vidya Balan is a new addition to the franchise. For the negative role of 'Kantha Kalpak' she has taken Rs 6 crore, more than Tk 7 crore in Bangladeshi currency.

Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan has joined the franchise for the first time, playing a character named 'Roddy'. Although he usually charges Rs 80 to 110 crore per film, he is reported to have taken Rs 25 crore for this film, more than Tk 32 crore in Bangladeshi currency.

Suraj plays 'Dilip' in the film and has taken Rs 1 crore. Vijay Sethupathi, who plays a police officer and usually charges Rs 15 to 25 crore per film, has no confirmed fee figure for this project. S. J. Suryah usually charges Rs 3 to 10 crore depending on the project, but his exact fee is also unknown. The film's cast also includes Jackie Shroff among a lineup of stars.

Produced by Kalanithi Maran, 'Jailer 2' was made on a budget of Rs 300 crore. By that measure, its worldwide earnings in the first three days have already surpassed its production budget.

Earlier, 'Jailer' was released on August 10, 2023 on 2,900 screens worldwide. Made on a budget of Rs 200 crore, that film earned Rs 600 to 635 crore, and the pre-release buzz only grew after it opened.

The question now is whether the sequel can surpass the first film's record. The pace of the box office suggests its earnings will climb much higher in the coming days.
