Prime Accused Bayezid Arrested in Dhaka's Uttara in Kishoreganj Schoolgirl Rape Case
The Special Response Battalion (SRB) has arrested Bayezid Mia (20), the prime accused in a case over the rape of a 14-year-old eighth-grade schoolgirl in Katiadi, Kishoreganj.
He was arrested on Saturday (24 October) at noon in a raid in the eastern police station area of Uttara in Dhaka.
The raid was carried out by a team of CPC-2 of the SRB-14 Kishoreganj camp. CPC-1 of SRB-1, based in Uttara, Dhaka, assisted in the operation.
According to an SRB press release, as per the case statement, the victim is a student of class eight at a local school. The accused Bayezid is her neighbour.
According to the allegation, Bayezid used to harass the girl and threaten her on her way to and from school. Her family informed Bayezid's family about the matter and asked them to stop him from such behaviour.
Angered by this, he allegedly raped the girl on 14 June at noon, finding her alone at home and threatening her.
After the incident, the girl's mother filed a petition case with the relevant tribunal in Kishoreganj as the complainant.
On the court's order, a case was filed on 10 September at Katiadi police station under Section 9(1) of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
Bayezid had been absconding since the case was filed. The press release said the SRB began its operation to arrest the fugitive accused at the request of the case's investigating officer.
His location was identified with the help of secret information and technology. A raid was then conducted in Uttara at around 2:05 pm on Saturday and he was arrested.
After the arrest, Bayezid was handed over to Katiadi police station for further legal action, the press release said.
The case will now move towards the next stages of investigation and judicial process. With the arrest, the victim's family has seen progress, after a long time, in bringing the accused under the law.
