President Visits Hospitalised Minister Abdul Moin Khan, Inquires About His Treatment

Staff Reporter

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir visited Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Dr Abdul Moin Khan, who is undergoing treatment at Dhaka's Evercare Hospital. He went to Evercare Hospital on Friday morning.

During the visit, the President inquired about the minister's physical condition and treatment and wished him a speedy recovery. The head of state's visit was also significant for the ailing minister's family and doctors.

Dr Abdul Moin Khan is a member of the BNP standing committee and the government's Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives. He was admitted to the CCU of Evercare Hospital after sudden chest pain, it was learned.

Since his admission to hospital with chest pain, there had been concern among party leaders, activists and well-wishers about his condition. News of the President going to the hospital in person to inquire brought a message of relief amid that concern.

The President inquired about the overall state of the minister's treatment at the hospital. The head of state's presence beside a senior minister under treatment is also being seen as an expression of political courtesy.

At the same time, another senior BNP leader and the government's Land Minister, Mizanur Rahman Minu, is also ill and admitted to hospital. He was brought from Rajshahi to Dhaka and admitted to PG Hospital, it was learned. As a result, the illness of two government ministers has come into discussion at the same time.

With two senior leaders in hospital at once, the main discussion within the party and the government is now about their recovery. Colleagues and well-wishers are praying for their speedy recovery.

Moin Khan has long been a front-rank leader in national politics. As he holds an important portfolio like the local government ministry, questions have also been raised about continuity of the ministry's work during his illness, although there is no formal announcement on this in the news.

The President's visit was brief and courteous — going to the hospital on Friday morning, he learned about the minister's condition, inquired about his treatment, wished him a quick recovery, and returned.

No detailed medical bulletin on the minister's physical condition had been released by the hospital or the family by the time this report was written. It is therefore not yet clear how long his treatment will continue or when he can return to duty.

The fact that he is being treated in the CCU itself indicates that doctors have kept him under close observation. In cases of chest pain, initial observation and tests are the first step of treatment.

All eyes will now be on the next update on Moin Khan's physical condition. After the President's good wishes, the party, the government and well-wishers have one expectation — that he recovers quickly and returns to his responsibilities.
