Spain's Guardia Civil Rescues Family and Their Dogs from Flooded Home in Oliva as Flooding Grips Valencia Region

Staff Reporter • Reading time: 2 min

Spain's Guardia Civil has rescued a family and their dogs from a flooded home in Oliva, in the country's east. The family was brought to safety from a waterlogged house in the coastal town in the Valencia region.

Footage released by the Spanish police force shows an officer carrying a woman on his back through the floodwater. Behind him, a man was being led towards safety through the rising water.

After the rescue, the family was taken out of the flooded town in a Guardia Civil vehicle. The family's pet dogs were also rescued from the house and taken along.

Aerial images filmed from a rescue helicopter reveal large areas submerged near the coast. With homes and neighbourhoods under water, many residents have been trapped inside their houses.

Heavy flooding continues to affect parts of the Valencia region. As water levels rise, emergency crews are continuing operations to reach residents cut off by the water.

The Guardia Civil rescue comes as flooding caused by persistent rain disrupts everyday life across eastern Spain. Rescue workers are going from house to house in flooded areas looking for people who are trapped.

The Oliva incident shows how quickly floodwater can make a home uninhabitable. Many residents are being forced to leave their homes behind, abandoning belongings just to save their lives.

Footage released by the authorities also shows streets submerged under water. With vehicle movement disrupted, reaching many areas has itself become difficult for rescue crews.

The aerial images make the scale of the flooding along the coast clear. Helicopter operations are also being used to assess the situation in areas that can no longer be reached by road.

Rescue operations in the Valencia region are expected to continue until the flood situation improves. Reaching residents who remain trapped is the emergency crews' main priority for now.
