Acting Is Now a 'Second Choice' as Sadia Jahan Prova Stays Busy With a Corporate Role
Sadia Jahan Prova was once a regular face on the drama screen. Her life now carries another identity — for the past year and a half she has been working as a director at an electronics company. She is still acting, but no longer sees it as the only profession in her life; acting is now her 'second choice'.
Prova says she is in no hurry to become regular in acting. She wants to work only when she gets a good story, an exceptional character and a proper honorarium. Choosing work with importance given to her own preference, respect and remuneration is now her principle.
Although she treats acting as a second choice, she has not left the screen altogether. She has acted in two government-grant films — Jhumur Asma Jui's 'Dui Poysar Manush' and Sadek Siddiqui's 'Dena Pawna' — joining both because she liked the stories and her characters.
On this, Prova says she joined the two films because their stories and her characters appealed to her. The shooting is not fully finished, however, with some parts still remaining; she says it will be completed within this year.
Prova also drew attention recently for acting alongside Mosharraf Karim in the OTT drama 'Look a Like'. Her performance in Ahmed Shakil Nisan's drama 'Bartaman' was praised as well. She is also appearing in the NTV serial 'Porer Meye'.
Prova's career has seen success, but difficult times in her personal life have repeatedly affected her journey. In August 2010 she married actor Ziaul Faruq Apurba for love. The two were a talked-about couple at the time and appeared together on various talk shows.
However, a former boyfriend of Prova then spread a video of their private moments. After that incident, she divorced Apurba in February 2011. She then went through a socially and mentally difficult period and stepped away from acting and the media for a while.
She married businessman Mahmud Shanto in 2012, but that marriage also broke down in 2014. After these personal experiences she took another break from acting. She later returned before the camera after a long gap, rebuilding her position through the 'Sikandar Box' series and other single-episode and serial dramas.
At different points in her career, Prova has been a victim of fake news, harassment and smear campaigns online. In 2023 she protested against cyberbullying by sending a legal notice.
At one time, fearing negative comments, the actress kept comments limited on her own photos and videos on social media. She has now largely overcome that constraint — sharing photos, videos and experiences from her personal life with followers, and speaking out against injustice.
Having passed through personal storms, breaks and fresh comebacks, Prova is now arranging her work and life in her own way. Carrying a corporate role alongside acting is part of that new journey. How regularly she will be seen on screen, only time will tell; for now, she is giving the greatest importance to her own choice when selecting work.
