55 BGB guards 64 border-area puja mandaps in Habiganj
The 55 Battalion of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is providing security for 64 puja mandaps in the border areas of Habiganj. The arrangement has been put in place so that the Sharodiya Durga Puja can be celebrated peacefully at the mandaps close to the border, according to related sources.
Mandaps in border areas receive special attention compared with other places, because during the festival authorities have to watch not only the movement and gathering of people but also the border situation itself. In Habiganj, that responsibility rests with 55 BGB.
A total of 64 mandaps are covered by the security arrangement. The number itself shows how widely puja celebrations are spread across the border belt and why each mandap needs separate attention.
Durga Puja is the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community. During this time, large numbers of people gather at mandaps for viewing idols, prayers and cultural programmes. Ensuring the safety of those crowds becomes a major responsibility for the administration and law enforcement agencies.
Related sources believe the BGB presence in the border area also helps build confidence among festival-goers. Alongside mandap-centred duties, the force also keeps watch over the overall border situation.
Security has been strengthened at mandaps across the country for this year's puja. The BGB deployment for the 64 border-area mandaps in Habiganj is part of that wider security preparation.
Crowds of visitors at the mandaps are expected to grow further during the festival days, and the security arrangement is understood to continue through that period.
Altogether, 55 BGB's deployment in Habiganj's border area is aimed at a peaceful and uninterrupted celebration of the puja, so that nothing disrupts the joy of the religious festival.
