Sonali Bank inaugurates 115 kWp solar system at its Staff College in Uttara
A 115 kilowatt-peak on-grid solar system has been inaugurated at Sonali Bank Staff College in Uttara in the capital, as part of Sonali Bank PLC's effort to reduce electricity costs at its installations and expand the use of renewable energy.
The bank's chairman Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman and managing director Md Shawkat Ali Khan inaugurated the rooftop solar system by cutting a ribbon.
Before that, they took part in an inaugural ceremony held in the Staff College conference room, where the significance of the solar system and the bank's plan to cut energy costs were discussed.
College principal Md Fazlul Haque chaired the ceremony, which was attended by Staff College faculty, executives of the bank at various levels, relevant officials and trainee officers.
The bank said the initiative is part of a continuing plan to lower electricity costs at its various installations and increase the use of renewable energy.
Electricity generated by the rooftop on-grid system will be used to meet the Staff College's own demand. Officials hope this will reduce dependence on conventional electricity and lower operating costs.
As a training institution, the Staff College regularly hosts batches of officers, so its electricity demand is continuous. The solar system will help meet part of that demand.
For a state-sector bank, introducing solar power at its installations is being seen by those involved as an example in the use of environmentally friendly energy.
Executives and officials present at the inauguration described the initiative as a step towards sustainable operations for the bank.
It remains to be seen how far the experience of this Staff College system is used to expand similar solar arrangements to the bank's other installations.
