Body of Pakistani citizen found hanging in South Banasree home, police investigating
Police have recovered the hanging body of a Pakistani citizen from a home in the South Banasree area under Khilgaon police station in the capital. The deceased was identified by police as Shehzad.
His body was recovered around 12 noon on Tuesday (20 October) from the house on Road No. 9 of Block G in South Banasree. News of the incident caused a stir in the neighbourhood.
Khilgaon police duty officer SI Joynob told the media, "We have learned that he married in Dhaka and lived in this very house." In other words, the Pakistani citizen had been living in Dhaka with his family.
The duty officer also described how police reached the scene. "Around 12 noon, the caretaker of the house informed us, and our team went there. Senior officers of the police station are now at the scene," she said.
Police have also obtained initial information about the deceased's occupation. SI Joynob added, "We have also learned that the deceased Shehzad was involved in the business of sending people abroad."
Police have not yet given any confirmed information about the cause of death. The duty officer said efforts were under way to learn the details, with senior officers collecting preliminary information at the scene.
The recovery of a hanging body naturally raises the question of whether this was suicide or whether there was another cause behind it. Police's initial statement has not yet answered that question.
The first stage of the investigation is understood to be proceeding through inspection of the scene and conversations with people nearby; the full picture will come from the police's formal investigation.
The information about his involvement in the business of sending people abroad may become significant in the investigation — but police have so far not linked that business to the death. Whether any connection exists cannot be said without investigation.
For now, police have released only the preliminary details — the deceased's name, address, living arrangement and occupation. More details are expected as the post-mortem and investigation progress.
Uncovering the true cause of Shehzad's death is now the central aim of the investigation. Attention will rest on police's next statement and the findings — only there will it become clear what actually happened in that South Banasree house before Tuesday noon.
