Mosquito eradication drive held in Sylhet's Ward 11 at Mirza Samrat's initiative

A mosquito eradication drive has been carried out in Ward 11 of Sylhet city. The drive was conducted at the personal initiative of Mirza Samrat, according to local reports.

In this post-monsoon period, mosquito infestation tends to rise in Sylhet and across the country. Stagnant water, drains and overgrown surroundings create favourable breeding conditions for mosquitoes, raising the risk of dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases.

Against that backdrop, many locally see a ward-level eradication effort of this kind as significant. Regular cleaning and mosquito control work could reduce the suffering of residents, it is believed.

Health specialists generally say mosquitoes cannot be controlled through a single day of activity; preventing water from accumulating in courtyards, rooftops and surroundings, and maintaining regular cleanliness, are essential.

Alongside such ward-level initiatives, city residents have long demanded that the city corporation's regular mosquito control programme be strengthened further.

Residents hope that after this drive in Ward 11, similar initiatives will spread to other wards of the city.
