Knee to the Helmet: Falcons' Young Daniels Leaves the Field on a Stretcher

Staff Reporter • Reading time: 2 min

Spectators witnessed a frightening moment on the American football field. Atlanta Falcons rookie linebacker Kendall Daniels had to be taken off the field on a stretcher, after his helmet collided with an opposing player's knee.

The incident occurred in the match against the Chicago Bears at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Daniels had run in to tackle Bears tight end Colston Loveland. He completed the tackle, but at that very moment his helmet struck Loveland's knee directly.

Immediately after the impact, Daniels shook his head and writhed in pain. Members of the medical team rushed onto the field. Understanding the gravity of the situation, the entire Falcons sideline stood surrounding their beloved teammate; some even began to pray at that point.

Journalists in the press box reported that the medics cut off Daniels's jersey. He was then immobilised and lifted onto a gurney (stretcher). Such caution is mandatory in cases of possible neck injury, because even slight movement can cause major damage.

The reassuring news, however, was that Daniels was conscious. Commentator Kevin Burkhardt said on the broadcast, 'You saw his left hand - we saw the hand move a few times. He is conscious and every precaution is being taken to give him the best treatment. I hope he is all right.'

Former star Tom Brady also said on the broadcast that it is hard for teammates to watch such a scene. In his words, the teammates will try to give their best for Daniels for the rest of the match.

Daniels was later taken to Grady Memorial Hospital to have the condition of his injury examined. How serious the neck injury is will be known only after detailed examination.

The Falcons had drafted Daniels from Oklahoma in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft. In his rookie season itself he had cemented his place - he was a starter in all six matches in head coach Kevin Stefanski's defence.

Before Sunday's Bears match, in five matches Daniels had a total of 22 combined tackles, one sack and one pass defended. This young linebacker's performances themselves show how important his role in the team had become.

Keeping the teammates' morale up for the rest of the match is now the Falcons' big challenge. And fans' eyes are now on news from the hospital - everyone is waiting for the next medical update on this young player.
