The government has carried out a reshuffle at the top level of the administration. Six secretaries have been transferred to various ministries and organisations. At the same time, an additional secretary has been promoted to the post of secretary and given new responsibilities.

In addition, two additional secretaries have been posted as acting secretaries of two ministries. Altogether, in this reshuffle, changes have come in the responsibilities of a total of nine officials, including seven secretaries.

The orders for these transfers and postings were given on Sunday in nine separate notifications issued from the Ministry of Public Administration. The notifications said these orders, issued in the public interest, will take effect immediately.

According to the notifications, Md Ataur Rahman Khan, secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, has been transferred as secretary of the Ministry of Shipping. Sharaf Uddin Ahmad Chowdhury, secretary of the Ministry of Textiles and Jute, has been posted as secretary of the Ministry of Commerce.

Ayesha Akter, additional secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, has been promoted and appointed as secretary of the Ministry of Textiles and Jute. As a result, three ministries — Commerce, Shipping and Textiles and Jute — all got new secretaries at once.

Zakaria, secretary of the Ministry of Shipping, has been transferred to the post of chairman (secretary) of the National River Protection Commission.

Md Mahbub Ul Alam, secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, has been transferred as secretary (attached) to the Ministry of Public Administration. Md Mahfuzul Alam Khan, additional secretary of the same ministry, has been posted as acting secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

In another notification, Bilkis Jahan Rimi, secretary of the Posts and Telecommunications Division, has been transferred as a member (secretary) of the Planning Commission.

Simultaneous changes at the secretary level in so many ministries and organisations are being seen as an attempt to bring new momentum to the administration. With this order, the top administrative leadership of several sectors including Commerce, Shipping, Textiles and Jute, Liberation War Affairs, Youth and Sports, and Posts and Telecommunications has changed.

As all the orders take effect immediately according to the notifications, the process of the officials concerned joining their new workplaces quickly is expected to begin. Attention will now be on how they take forward the ongoing work of their respective ministries in their new responsibilities.
