State Minister Ishraq Hossain calls resignation news 'false and baseless'
Ishraq Hossain, state minister for liberation war affairs, has claimed that news of his resignation is entirely false, baseless and motivated. He also said no instruction to resign has been given to him from the high levels of the government.
The state minister said these things in a post on his verified Facebook account on Sunday, 18 October. He gave this statement after news of his resignation recently spread in various media and on social media.
In the post, Ishraq Hossain said the news being circulated that he has resigned or that he has been instructed to resign is completely false and fabricated. He clarified that no such incident has occurred.
The state minister said he is carrying out his governmental and political responsibilities with devotion. The post also mentioned that there is no question of his resignation.
His allegation is that a quarter is circulating such false information to achieve political objectives and to spread confusion in the public mind. He claimed the baseless resignation news was spread from this motivated campaign.
The post also mentioned an incident from last Saturday. He said that in a situation arising at an anti-drug social resistance programme in his own parliamentary constituency, an incident of lawfully displaying a weapon in self-defence had occurred.
The post mentioned that he had already clarified his position on that incident. According to the state minister, circulating news of his resignation centred on that incident is unlawful and contrary to the principles of journalism.
Ishraq Hossain has called upon the media and the people of the country not to be confused by such propaganda. He also requested them to refrain from circulating baseless news without verification.
The media that published this news have been requested to withdraw it immediately and publish the correct information. The post hinted that correcting incorrect news is the responsible conduct of journalism.
The post further mentioned that legal action will otherwise be taken against those spreading the propaganda. That is, the state minister has warned of taking the legal path if the news is not withdrawn.
After the day-long discussion surrounding the resignation news, this clear statement by the state minister has for now brought an end to the speculation on the matter. According to him, he remains in office and has continued to discharge his responsibilities with devotion.
